overall creation of this essential piece of remembrance.\u00a0 And <a title=\"The Names Project - AIDS Memorial Quilt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aidsquilt.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Names Project<\/a>, custodians of the Quilt, continue to receive a new panel or two each day.\u00a0 Being entirely hand-sewn, <!--more-->the quilt is fragile.\u00a0 Therefore a corp of &#8220;Handmaidens of the Quilt&#8221; carry out repairs and oversee its longevity.\u00a0\u00a0 There is no cost whatsoever to submit a panel, though <a title=\"Support the AIDS Memorial Quilt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aidsquilt.org\/support\" target=\"_blank\">contributions<\/a> are truly appreciated &#8211; it takes about $250 to incorporate a panel into the quilt, not to mention other costs.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the physical beauty of the quilt is the fact that it brings so many people together without regard to race, class, gender or age.\u00a0 It also provides an eternal remembrance and respect for tens of thousands who died before their time.\u00a0 Their inclusion here accentuates the point that casualties of the epidemic were true individuals &#8211; not just statistics.\u00a0 As people around the world continue to be diagnosed positive, it is essential that we connect with one another without borders or preconceived ideas.\u00a0 The Quilt is a catalyst in breaking down barriers.\u00a0 Go and see it while you can &#8211; portions of it are on display in Washington, DC through the month of July..<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Smithsonian Folk Life Festival\" href=\"http:\/\/www.festival.si.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smithsonian Folk Life Festival<\/a>:\u00a0 June 27th &#8211; July 8th<\/p>\n<p>On the National Mall (through the <a title=\"AIDS 2012 (XIX International Conference)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aids2012.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">XIX International AIDS Conference<\/a>):\u00a0 July 21st &#8211;
